EACA Salary Survey.  The EACA is conduciting its 2020 Salary Survey to assist all member companies administer their compensation plans.This survey will not only collect data on a number of job titles but will also be indexed by region and city to maxmize the value of the results collected.  Please note that this survey will be completely anonymous and that company identification will not be requested, or required.  The survey should take about 5 minutes to complete for your payrolll adminstrator.    Results of the survey will be available to be shared in time for ExhbitorLive.

Clark County Double Deck Permit Update.    The EACA would like to remind all members that Clark County isssued a temporary stay to the building permit requirement for double deck exhibits, they have issued a proposed change to the ordinance which is attached here.

In addition, they have sent out an impact questionnaire for input on these proposed changes.   Clark County’s final decision on the ordinance will be largely based on the input received on the impact questionnaire.   So, if you have not already done so please send in your completed questionnaire as soon as possible.

Local Reps Needed for Skills USA Outreach.    In EACA’s efforts to identify and attract the next generation of EAC trade show professionals, the EACA Board has initiated an outreach campaign to connect with SkillsUSA.     SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to insure America has a skilled workforce.  Our industry faces a challenge of an aging workforce that needs to be replaced by a new generation of motivated, skilled workers.    SkillsUSA is an invaluable resource of that talent and the EACA is looking for local representation in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Skills USA hosts local and regional events in these states and EACA reps will be points of contact for opportunities to inform students at these events about potential careers in the trade show industry.   For more information on how you can support the EACA Talent Initiative email [email protected].

Herrera Named Sho-Link’s Employee of the Year   Jim Genzano, Regional Director of Operations, presented the Employee of the Year award to Jose Herrera at Sho-Link’s Year End Celebration Party.   Herrera started in the business in September of 2011 working for a local exhibit house as a builder in their shop. Shortly after he left the Exhibit house, he joined the Southern California Sho-Link team as a union carpenter.

His direct supervisor, Southern California manager Leandra Spontak had this to say, “Jose always goes the extra mile in everything he does. If we need him to be a part of a crew, he fills that role. He also excels at being a lead supervisor and motivating the crew to exceed client expectations. He was the best equipment manager we have had and is now meeting the challenges of being a show supervisor when needed. He does everything well and we are fortunate to have him on our team.”

ASAE President/CEO Passes Away  <TSNN>  ASAE’s President and CEO, John H. Graham IV, FASAE, CAE, has passed away after an extended battle with cancer.  Graham was a transformative leader for ASAE and a mentor to many in the association community. During his tenure, which began August 1, 2003, ASAE more than doubled its membership and developed a wealth of innovative products and services to benefit association professionals and their partners.

IAEE Announces 2020 Board of Directors < TSNN>   IAEE’s 2020 board will be led by Robert (Bob) McLean, executive vice president of Promotional Products Association International. He’s worked at the association since 2008 and has served in his current role since fall 2011. As chairperson, he will focus on the continuation of IAEE’s advocacy efforts, including its work with the Exhibitions Mean Businesshibiti campaign.   The newest members to the 2020 IAEE Board of Directors include:

  • Christopher Harar, President of NTP Events, National Trade Productions
  • Jennifer Heinold, Senior Vice President of Events, Access Intelligence
  • KV Nagendra Prasad, Hyderabad International Trade Exhibition Centre
  • Brian Scott, Chief Information Officer, Experient, a Maritz Global Events Company.

CEIR Reports Industry’s Modest Growth in Q3  <TSNN> The exhibition industry continued to grow, albeit modestly, during the third quarter of 2019, according to the Center for Exhibition Industry Research’s quarterly exhibition index report. The CEIR Total Index, which measures exhibition industry performance, posted a year-over-year gain of 0.6 percent even though it underperformed the overall economy as reflected in the inflation-adjusted GDP.

While the trade show industry’s moderate third quarter performance proved to be weaker than the first two quarters of the year, it showed a slight improvement over the same quarter in 2018 when the industry registered an underwhelming year-over-year gain of 0.2 percent.

Derse Names Preston as New President <Exhibit City News>.  Derse is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Preston to president effective Jan. 1. The appointment comes on the back of another strong year of organizational and revenue growth for Derse.    Preston, formerly Derse’s senior vice president, has been with the company for 11 years and is a 33-year veteran of the face-to-face industry. He has been instrumental in formalizing and advancing Derse’s corporate sales and marketing functions.
