Expo Recovery Think Tank Explores Road to Safe Events  <TSNN>   Industry leaders from across the U.S. came together at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas for Expo Recovery, a face-to-face meeting to discuss recovery solutions and also test-drive a safe, socially distant event. From next-level technology to room setup to breakfast on individual side tables, it offered a glimpse of what could be in store for our industry over the next year.

Health safety was understandably a key component. Attendees got to experience some potential solutions first hand with a Citizen Care Pod, a secure space for testing and screening that is part of a blockchain-powered system developed by Canada-based tech company Connectus Global.   Read more

UBC Working With MPEA and Chicago Federation of Labor on Food Drive .   The United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners (UBC) is working with the MPEA and the CFL to hold a Food Drive for those union members that have been seriously impacted by the COVID pandemic.  Please be sure to let all your Chicagoland union member full time and part time employees know about this Food Drive Program.

Employco USA Offers Advice on Mental Health.   The coronavirus pandemic has changed what a normal day looks like for many across the country. And the pandemic has also increased the stress of many Americans. Prioritizing mental health and well-being in the face of a pandemic, which has caused many to lose their jobs or work from home, is something that every single person should be doing, but it often falls by the wayside.

More than 1 in 5 Americans have diagnosable mental disorders at some point in their lives, yet only about half of those individuals receive professional mental health treatment.  Read more.

OSHA-10 Training Available for Local Workers in Las Vegas   Las Vegas Teamsters Local 631 is still offering Zoom classes for all local Las Vegas workers who want to get their OSHA-10 Safety Certification.   Contact the Training Center to find out when the next class will be scheudled.

IBT To Offer OSHA-10 Training to All Others. The Int’l Brotherhood of Teamsters are offering OSHA-10 certification for all trade show professionals who reside outside of Las Vegas.

Informa Taps Nancy Walsh to Lead North America   <TSNN>  Informa Markets has consolidated its North America-headquartered brands under a single leadership team led by Nancy Walsh, who has been promoted to the role of President of the expanded North America portfolio.  “Since joining us, Nancy has immersed herself in understanding what value we can offer to our customers through our brands and developed solutions that keep our communities connected, 365 days a year,” said Charlie McCurdy, CEO Informa Markets.

Key brands in the portfolio Walsh will oversee include National Products Expos West and East, World of Concrete, SupplySide West and MAGIC.   With these changes, two long-standing members of its senior management team, Rick McConnell and Fred Linder, who led the former North America group and Health & Nutrition group, respectively, will be stepping down.

Industry Veterans Launch Int’l Exhibitor Representation Program <TSNN>  For exhibiting companies unable to participate in overseas trade shows due to travel restrictions, help is on the way. Launched in early October, the International Exhibitor Representation Program enables exhibitors to continue selling and/or break into targeted markets at trade shows all over the world, even if they can’t be there in person.

Depending on the show, IERP functions as a remote booth or pavilion, using its network of in-country exhibition professionals filling in for exhibitor teams that are unable to travel to show sites, said Diane Bjorklund, founder of Chicago-based Eventful Management Group. She’s the founder of IERP along with Stephanie Selesnick, president of Las Vegas-based International Trade Information, Inc.   Read more.

IAEE Goes Virtual for Expo!Expo!  <Exhibit City News>   The International Association of Exhibitions and Events announced today that due to the enhanced negative realities of COVID-19 around the world, the in-person portion of this year’s Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition slated for Dec. 8-10 in Louisville, Ky., will not take place. IAEE will refocus its efforts on the virtual Expo! Expo! with many of the same show elements presented in an engaging virtual format.

UFI and SISO Executives Call on Governments to Enact Testing Before Quarantining   <TSNN>  UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and SISO, the Society for Independent Show Organizers, are calling on global policymakers and governments to follow a “testing before quarantine” approach for business-related travel and activities. This approach, both organizations say — which would include activating the potentials of rapid antigen COVID-19 tests — would enable businesses to move forward out of a severe global recession.
