2025 IFES World Summit. <Exhibit City News> The International Federation of Exhibition and Event Services (IFES) is excited to reveal highlights from the upcoming programme. This year’s event takes place in Guadalajaro, Mexico from June 17-20.
This year’s theme—Transforming Our Learnings into a Sustainable Future—invites us to turn ideas into action. The Summit offers a dynamic space for exhibition and event professionals from across the IFES network to connect, reflect and collaborate on the future of our industry. With four decades of international exhibition knowledge behind us, we’re building conversations that spark real-world change. IFES President Jörg Zeissig puts it plainly: “We are not just gathering to talk—we are meeting to tackle issues, provide solutions and to act. The learnings we’ve accumulated over four decades are only valuable if we apply them. Guadalajara represents that action point.”
Northstar Cvent Meetings Industry Pulse Survey <Northstar Meetings Group>. The business meetings and events industry is facing a year of both uncertainty and opportunity. Planners are adapting to shifting trends and new challenges while striving to deliver exceptional experiences. Our latest report reveals a nuanced picture of optimism, caution, and evolution in 2025.
While planner optimism has dipped from last year, nearly half remain hopeful, underscoring a divide shaped by sector-specific factors. Sourcing activity remains high, with 75 per cent of planners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) actively pursuing new business and over half expecting to produce more meetings than in 2024. Yet, attendance expectations are lower, with planners adjusting their strategies to focus on smaller room blocks and more cautious commitments.
The U.S is losing its appeal as an event destination for EMEA planners, with 70 per cent citing reduced interest due to rising costs and logistical hurdles. At the same time, geopolitical concerns, cybersecurity risks, and even unpredictable weather are climbing the list of priorities, adding new layers of complexity to event planning.
Newark Aiport Runway Project Wraps Up Early <Northstar Meetings Group>. A construction project on one of Newark Liberty International Airport’s three main runways wrapped up nearly two weeks early, so the Federal Aviation Administration expects to be able to ease flight limits next week despite the ongoing shortage of air-traffic controllers.
Department of Transportation officials said Monday that some of the runway equipment must be tested before the FAA can increase the number of flights at the second-busiest airport in the New York City area. The runway began to be used for departures Monday, but won’t be available for arrivals until after that testing is completed early next week. According to Transportation secretary Sean Duffy, if all goes well, the runway should be certified by June 10.
