EACA News

EACA’s “Event Community in Your Pocket”.   The EACA announces launching the EACA App, a new mobile platform designed to put the power of the event community directly into the hands of the people who make events happen.  The idea behind the app is simple – What if you could put the event community in your pocket?

For exhibitors and event professionals, some of the most difficult challenges happen at the worst possible time—during show setup.   Something is missing. An unexpected problem develops. A local resource is needed. Or someone simply needs advice from a person who has dealt with the same situation before.  The EACA App provides a new way to ask for help.   Read More.

32nd Annual Randy.    The 32nd Annual Randy took place last week at Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA on September 28.   More than 350 event professionals attended as golfers, sponsors, volunteers and recipients of the industry’s largest fundraising event.  This year’s event honored, supported and celebrate the event careers fo both financial and legacy recipients.   Special presentations were made by Katie Van Diggelen in honor of her son Drew who worked for Willwork in Las Vegas and passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, and Pam Sandersfeld, a past recipient from 2014, who was recognized and supported again this year as she continues to battle cancer.

Special shout outs to the tireless efforts of the members of the Randy Board, the sponsors, volunteers and golfing participants who make this the greatest annual event of our industry.

EACA Writes Article on EAC Fees.  Responding to the ongoing onslaught of EAC Fees the EACA has crafted an article that explains “Why the EAC Fee is Actually a Tax on Exhibitor Choice.”

The article, to be published this week in Exhibit City News, explains the punitive nature of the EAC Fee particularly when the fee is charged multiple times at shows when an EAC is serving more than one client.   This onerous practice is particularly penalizing in an EAC registration process that only requires the EAC in question to be vetted once.   Every event undertakes the EAC registration process for risk management purposes.  The show organizer wouldn’t know who is servicing a particular client and whether they have the requisite licensing, union contracts (if required) and insurance coverage.   That process has been in place for more than 40 years.   But certain events, and some general service contractors have turned this process into a boondoggle by collecting multiple fees when a small nominal charge would adequately cover the administrative cost.

Ask Three People Who Decides Then Brace Yourself.

Tuesday’s leadership meeting. Item four is the same item four from two weeks ago. The pricing on the new service line. The ops hire. The system everybody agrees the company has outgrown. Somebody gives an update that isn’t really an update. Heads nod. Somebody says we need to get this one done. The meeting moves to item five.

You’ve sat through that meeting. Maybe this week.  When a decision stalls like that, two explanations get offered.

  • The process is broken…
  • or somebody isn’t doing their job.

Neither gets tested. So the fix becomes another meeting, the meeting produces more agreement, and the agreement produces nothing.  There’s a faster way to find out what’s stuck. It takes about a minute, and it costs nothing except what you might hear.  Read more
