2025 Randy Breaks Records. It was a banner year for The Randy. The 31st Annual Randy was the largest ever in terms of golfers, sponsors and volunteers. And the amazing support for this year’s recipients couldn’t have been timed better as there are a total of 17 recipients, 11 of which will need financial support. The Randy hit high water marks with more than 280 golfers and more than 350 in attendance at the evening banquet. And best of all the weather at this year’s event was picture perfect. Special thanks goes out to all those on the RSMGC Board and Planning Committee who made this year’s event a great success.
On a final note the date has already been secured for the 32nd Annual Randy. Be sure to put September 28, 2026 on your calendars now.

What Happens If Government Shutsdown <Northstar Meetings Group> When a lapse in funding occurs, the law requires agencies to cease activity and furlough “nonexcepted” employees. Excepted employees include those who work to protect life and property. They stay on the job but don’t get paid until after the shutdown ends. During the 35-day partial shutdown in Trump’s first term, 340,000 of the 800,000 federal workers at affected agencies were furloughed. The remainder were “excepted” and required to work.
What Work Continues? A great deal, actually. FBI investigators, CIA officers, air-traffic controllers and agents operating airport checkpoints keep working. So do members of the Armed Forces. Those programs that rely on mandatory spending also generally continue during a shutdown. Social Security payments continue going out. Seniors relying on Medicare coverage can still see their doctors and health-care providers and submit claims for payment and be reimbursed. Veterans’ health care also continues during a shutdown. Veterans Affairs medical centers and outpatient clinics will be open, and VA benefits will continue to be processed and delivered. Burials will continue at VA national cemeteries.
AI Is Quietly Raising Travel Costs <USA Today> Travel companies are quietly deploying artificial intelligence systems, creating an invisible web of automated billing that can cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars – often without your knowledge or consent. From Hertz’s controversial AI vehicle scanners to hotel vape detectors, to airline pricing algorithms possibly jacking up fares, these systems operate in the shadows while your wallet takes a hit.
The technology promises efficiency and fairness, but travelers are discovering that AI often acts more like a digital pickpocket than an impartial assistant. The systems flag false positives, make decisions without human oversight, and shift the burden of proof onto customers who have to defend themselves against algorithmic accusations. “The key to fighting back is understanding that these systems prioritize speed and automation over accuracy,” explained Frank Harrison, regional security director for the Americas at World Travel Protection. “They’re designed to extract maximum revenue while hoping customers won’t challenge algorithmic decisions. But armed with the right documentation and strategies, travelers can level the playing field.”
