EACA & Exhibitor Advocate Author Article on Fees.   The number one issue for exhibitors in the tradeshow and events industry is rising costs. There are numerous research reports highlighting this topic. The Exhibitor Advocate, in partnership with Explori and Exhibitor Group, recently published the Exhibit Leader Insights Report, confirming 2/3 of exhibitors cite rising cost as their primary  concern. There are multiple ways to address the issue of cost in our industry and the simplest is to scrutinize expenses exhibitors are charged.

There is a little fee, called the “EAC Fee,” often charged to exhibitors without them even knowing it. For some, it’s a drop in their bucket, but for most of us it’s a fee that provides no value, and exhibitors bear the burden.  Read more.

Nth Degree & Fern Join Forces Nth Degree recently announced that they are joining forces with Fern Exposition Services, a trade show and event service provider based in Cincinnati, OH.

John Hense, Nth Degree CEO, will lead the newly combined company.  Nth Degree’s trade show group will continue to be led by Russell Greenway, Chief Client Officer and Ben Power, VP Operations (pictured).

Chavez Leads Willwork Marketing Department.  <Exhibit City News>  Chelsea Chavez is a marketing maven with over 15 years of experience. She excels in fast-paced, creative environments and approaches her work with an energetic attitude. Chelsea’s passion for marketing and events has led her to contribute her expertise to companies such as Blue Man Group, House of Blues, WVC (previously known as Western Veterinary Conference), and Adomni.

McCormick Place Changes Facility Management <Crain’s Chicago Business>  McCormick Place will have a new management firm and food service provider starting this fall, the first switch for both since the convention center moved to a private management model over a decade ago.

The Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority board of directors approved contracts for divisions of Los Angeles-based Oak View Group to run the Near South Side convention center and oversee its food operations. OVG360 and OVG Hospitality will begin respectively as the manager and food service provider on five-year contracts that begin Oct. 1.

Dalton Jenkins Passes Away   <Exhibit City News>   Dalton Lee Jenkins, “Skip” to his friends, passed away in Mexico on June 8th. He was 65.

Born on July 31, 1957 in Cleveland, OH, Jenkins graduated Willoughby South High School in 1975 and went on to Kent State University. After graduating with a BA in Political Science and Spanish Literature, he went on to Ohio University where he got an MFA in Spanish Literature. His love of Spanish was obvious, while he traveled the world, he often took trips to Mexico and South America.

Larry Kulchawik, Past President of EDPA, says, “Dalton served as EDPA president and was very involved in pushing international involvement and helping to start EDPA membership to IFES with Ingrid Boyd and I (both past presidents). Dalton then helped to organize and attended the first EDPA participation at Euroshop with IFES.” Kulchawik ends with a lovely tribute to Jenkins, “His wit, charm, and friendly nature will be missed by all that he touched in our industry.”

Arnaudet to Retire.  <TSNN>Larry Arnaudet, executive director of the Exhibition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA), announced his retirement, effective December 2023, following an impressive career in the meetings and conventions industry. “Yogi Berra once said, ‘When you come to a fork in the road, take it,’” Arnaudet told Trade Show News Network (TSNN). “Well, I’m there now and can see that fork ahead. After 53 wonderful years in this incredible industry, it’s time to hang up the coat and tie and catch up on all the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc., that eluded me over the years.”
